Hey guys i'm working on a mac that won't boot. I have little knowledge of OSX, but from what i've done, the hardware seems good and disk repair will not fix the issue so i'm trying to backup data and then reinstall.

I have an external harddrive plugged into the mac, and it sees both in disc utility i can see the user profile and all the files, but i do not know how to move the files over the the external harddrive.

Can someone show me the way? :)

Thanks!

Disk Utility does not "copy" files, its for Disk Maintenance. If there is a problem with the source Disk I would not make a disk image.

To Copy files from 1 drive to another you Drag and Drop them.

You can also use a programme like Carbon Copy Cloner.

Cool, thanks for the feedback, i ended up downloading a trial for "Macdrive" and was able to slave to a windows machine and pull the data, currently re installing OSX.
