How to Stop Your iPhone From Changing Wallpaper Automatically

Is your iPhone changing wallpapers on its own? This can be quite annoying, but don't worry, I've got you covered with some easy fixes.

1. Disable Photo Shuffle

  • Open Settings by tapping on the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap on Wallpaper.
  • Tap on Add New Wallpaper.
  • Select a new wallpaper from anywhere other than the Photo Shuffle section.

  • If you want to keep Photo Shuffle enabled but make it less frequent, scroll down to your album, tap on Shuffle Frequency, and set longer periods between wallpapers.

Disabling Photo Shuffle will prevent your iPhone from automatically changing wallpapers. This is often the main culprit behind unexpected wallpaper changes.

2. Remove Wallpaper Attached to Focus Mode

  • Open Settings and tap on Focus.

  • Select Do Not Disturb.
  • Check if there is a dedicated lock screen wallpaper under Customize Screens.
  • If yes, tap the minus symbol (-) at the top-left corner of the wallpaper preview to remove it.
  • Repeat the steps for Personal, Sleep, and Work modes.

Removing wallpapers attached to Focus modes stops your iPhone from switching wallpapers when you enable or disable Focus modes.

3. Remove All Added Wallpapers

  • Touch and hold the lock screen to view your wallpaper gallery.
  • Swipe up on the wallpaper you want to remove.
  • Tap the red trash icon that appears.
  • Select Delete This Wallpaper.
  • Repeat these steps for all saved designs in your wallpaper gallery.
Deleting all added wallpapers ensures that your iPhone stops switching between multiple wallpapers.

Removing all added wallpapers will help you maintain a consistent look on your iPhone and prevent any unwanted changes.

4. Slow Down Haptic Touch

  • Open Settings and tap on Accessibility.
  • Under the Physical and Motor section, tap Touch.

  • Tap on Haptic Touch.
  • Set your Touch Duration to Slow.
  • Try the sensor on the Touch Duration Test.
Slowing down Haptic Touch reduces the likelihood of accidentally opening your wallpaper gallery from the lock screen.

5. Turn Off Raise to Wake

  • Open Settings and tap Display & Brightness.
  • Scroll down to Raise to Wake.
  • Disable the toggle button beside Raise to Wake.

Turning off Raise to Wake ensures that your screen stays off even if it shakes around in your pocket or bag, preventing accidental wallpaper changes.

6. Disable Tap to Wake

  • Open Settings and tap on Accessibility.
  • Tap Touch.
  • Toggle off the button for Tap to Wake.
Disabling Tap to Wake stops your iPhone’s screen from lighting up whenever something bumps into it, preventing accidental changes.

7. Restore Your iPhone to Factory Settings

  • Open Settings and go to General.
  • Scroll down to Transfer or Reset iPhone.

  • Tap Reset and select Reset Home Screen Layout.
  • If the issue remains, tap Reset and select Reset All Settings.
Performing a factory reset will turn off any functions causing your iPhone to change wallpapers. Ensure you back up all your files beforehand.

Restoring to factory settings is a last-ditch effort if none of the other solutions work. It wipes your entire device, so proceed with caution.

If your iPhone still keeps changing wallpapers despite performing these solutions, contact Apple Support. It likely has underlying software or hardware issues.
