How to install Gimp for OS X

Gimp is an amazing piece of software, and it's free !

So if you can't justify the price of Photoshop then this is for you...

First go here and have a read...of what it's all about !

Then we need to download it...

The easiest way of downloading and running Gimp is to download it from here.

There are other, more complicated ways of installing and using x11 Apps...but we'll save that for another post !

Download from the link above...

You will then get a '.dmg' file on your desktop.

Now a disk icon will appear on your Desktop...

Double click the Disk icon...

Now copy the "Gimp" icon (the Application) to your Applications folder...

Now eject the Gimp disk icon and throw away the .dmg file.

To launch Gimp, either drag a image file on to it's icon or just double click the Application...

Like most Apps when you launch Gimp you should see a splash screen...

The first time it loads it will be a little slow...

...and off you go.

Using Applications in the x11 environment are a bit disorienting at first but you will soon get the hang of it...

The main menus that you want to use are attached to the document window...

For the most part you can ignore the top (x11) menubar !
