I have a few redundant aliases/icons in Launchpad. For example, I have two LibreOffice aliases/icons in Launchpad, because I downloaded recently a new version of LO. How can I delete the old alias/icon? Also, how can I find out which is the old alias/icon?

Apparently, if I create and alias of an application for the Dock, this alias will show up in the Launchpad. Removing the unwanted alias from the Applications Folder will also remove the alias from the Launchpad. I guess, I just answered my own question!

You don't need an Alias to put an App in the Dock, the Dock Items are Alias'.

Other than that Launchpad searches everywhere for Apps and Alias' to Apps and puts them into the Launchpad. I find this a bit of a pain, but that's what it's for, showing all the Apps on your Mac.
