How does the iCloud category in Finder originate?

I noticed that in the left column there is a category [see attached]. Being somewhat new to OSX, I do not know how that was created and the difference between the iCloud under the iCloud category and www.iCloud.com.

And why is Desktop under that category -- it use to be like pictures?

Hi, do you use iCloud Drive at all? I don't but I imagine that if you were then what you are asking about is to do with the workings of iCloud Drive.

You are able to modify that menu if you like. People usually modify the Favourites section. You just navigate to your home directory & drag folders into this section or rearrange the order.
