How do I delete these?

At bottom of the tab "Places" you will see two Untitled DVD symbols,as picture
Firstly are they supposed to be there and secondly how do I delete them if they are not meant to be there a clicking on them results in nothing at all.

They aren't normally there..they are shortcuts to blank burn folders that were created at some time. You don't need them.

Try right-click or Control-click, then select Remove from Sidebar.

I tried Control -Click but the option you recommended is not listed,an other suggestions?

Did you Control-click on Untitled DVD in the sidebar or simply on the desktop?

From the desktop, I cannot highlight the "Untitled DVD" symbols in the sidebar, I can drag them out of the sidebar but when I release the curser they shoot straight back

Try this drag one of the symbols onto the desk top while holding down the command key.
What is the result?
