Home Network Computer connection problem

I have several Windows pcs on home network that I can see in Finder under shared but I cannot connect with them from my MacBook Pro. It shows connection failed. My Mac G4 can connect with them and the Macbook pro can connect with the G4. Does anyone have an idea. Or can tell me how to reset my network setting to the Default settings. I have made so many changes I am lost.
