i have a macbook pro from 2006, my internal cd drive is not working and i'm trying to install factory definitions from an external cd drive. the problem is that when i press c nothing happens only appears an interrogation folder. or sometimes appear the apple symbol and than back again to interrogation folder... Help please!!!!

update: sometimes when I unplug the external, turn off the external and then plug and turn on again, appear the apple log and stays like that for 2 minutes and change to a message panic (cpu 0 caller 0x0039bddf): unable to find driver for this platform: ACPI; Than appear a message you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. I'm trying to boot from the external because my internal is broken.

It seems that you won't be able to use your external drive. You have other options:
- use a memory stick that you can format and copy the disk image. Booting on it will work
- another option is to create a separate partition with Boot Camp, then restore the disk image file on it. A startup, press the "option" key, and the BootCamp will show up.

Hope it helps.
Good luck.
