If anyone can help I would be so grateful.

I had a word document open when I had a power cut. When I was able to get back on I carried on, saving as I went. Unfortunately I hadn’t realised it was a recovery file and not my original and shut it. Now I cannot find it anywhere. Have tried following all the online suggestions but to no avail. The only temporary file I’ve found is blank. I’m guessing I’ve completely lost it? Many thanks.

Have you tried Spotlight? If it fails, your best bet at this point is Time Machine. If you don’t have Time Machine backups, and assuming you know the exact file name, you can use a utility such as Find Any File, you could locate it anywhere on your system, including attached drives. A cloning app, such as Carbon Copy Cloner, would be invaluable as well, but don’t go with any cloning app that creates bootable copies.

Many thanks for responding. Yes I’ve tried spotlight and Time Machine. I think at this stage my best bet is to write it off and start again. Thanks though.

I take it that you haven’t tried Find Any File. It’s available from the App Store, free.

Thanks Tony!
