OK, I have a pdf document that INSISTS on opening in Preview on the second page. I know you can set that "first displayed page" in Acrobat, but can I do so in Preview? Preview reports thta I have full permissions for this document.

Hi,

Maybe try selecting the first page in the thumbnail sidebar and save it. That should change the "opening" page view.

See if that works.

No, that doesn't work. It's the obvious stuff that doesn't work.

What *does* seem to work is to select the first page, and then "Export as PDF". The pages end up rotated for some reason, but that's correctable.

Somewhat bizarre that "Export" with format set to pdf doesn't do it.

I've never understood the difference between "Export to PDF" and "Export" with format set as pdf.

Hmmm...I wonder if there is some form of protection on the PDF, or if it could be realted to how it was originally created. Those steps work on a number of my PDFs, from various sources.

Export to PDF - exports to PDF using "typical" settings
Export... lets you choose PDF with Quartz Filter modes and other formats

They are basically the same thing - one just has a few custom export settings.
