Hello,

I am using a power mac G5 with 10.5.8

I recently backed up my PC (~250gb) to my mac and everything went quite smoothly. I then wiped my PC and reinstalled windows.

The files are fine, I can open ones compatible with mac but it will not let me move them back. I cant copy either. I went through all the folders and they are Privileged to read and write access for all users!

I have been searching online with no luck. I found one article that was talking about a security feature from windows to windows transfers that locks files/folders as a safety measure... could that have happened here?

It says I don't have permission when transferring and when I look in the files it says I do, so I have no clue what course of action to take now...

I am a graphic artist and virtually screwed by my files being 'locked'

Oh: and I have already used disk utilities to try and repair permissions (no help)

Much appreciation for any help ! ! ! !

this was all through Ethernet but I misspoke earlier. It's been stressful.

Drag and drop simply, no programs being used

For The Masses;
First of all I never exactly figured out why my permissions were screwed up or even how exactly to fix them.
- What I did through trial and error, was make a new folder on the desktop. Then transferred all the files over with no pre-existing folders

Next I figured out that part of my problem was I cannot edit things in the windows machine over the Ethernet/transfers (Kinda obvious) but what I had to figure out was I could only add things past the "documents" and not in the user folder its self.

My overall interpretation now is that the mac could not edit the files within the windows machine and thus mac OS not knowing why claimed a privileges issue... but this still doesn't quite explain having to make new folders. My guess is they got locked not being from an original mac user...?

Thanks for trying to help!
-It's very hard to convey these things online as an amateur and part of the very issue is 'we' do not know the information/terminology/technology we need and that is why we are stuck!... conundrum
