I have wifi available, but I've had my iMac (10.11.6) running internet off my Ethernet line to my router. It's a little faster that way. But suddenly, that Ethernet connection stopped working. My iMac Ethernet now reads "Not Connected", with Status as "Cable Unplugged" (when the cable is plugged in). Wifi works fine on that machine.
Now, I know that several years ago ago, Apple broke the Ethernet with Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration 3.28.1, but I'm way past that. Just for grins, I did an update on that, and it made no difference.
That same Ethernet cable connection works just fine on my MBP (also 10.11.6). So it's not a defective cable. Do I have to assume my iMac has developed some hardware problem that prevents Ethernet from working on it? Tried rebooting, and SMC and PRAM reset. No joy.
