Empty Folders

When opening folders (with items inside), the folder is blank and the arrow circle is twirling. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the spinning beach ball?

Please tell us which Mac you are running and which OS X. Also firstly I would open disk utility and run a repair permissions then tell us if this still happens.

Running Disk Utility now

I have heard of a flashing question mark, but seriously never heard of a grey arrow. Can you post a snap shot.
