We need to know, at a minimum, the following:

1. What exact Mac model do you have?

2. What exact Mac OS are you using?

3. Have you ever done any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs, from a software perspective?

4. Are you making backups to an external device?

5. What EMail program are you using? And who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

Hello,

Just to add if you use Mac Mail check the mail preferences as my screen shot and tell each mail account when to delete mail, I have all accounts set to delete trash mail when it closes.

Thanks for the replies. In response to Honestone, and using the same paragraph numbering - 1. MacBook Air (13 inch, Early 2015]; 2. Sierra 10.12.5; 3. No; 4. No.; 5. Outlook and BT.

Thanks for that information. Not doing any disk cleanup/maintenance/repairs is not good, and having no backups is even worse. Even if this issue can be fixed, you really need to get into the habit of doing those tasks.

I have Outlook 2016 (and I used Outlook 2011 previously), and I am not having this issue. But, here are the results of two searches I just did: "How to set Outlook 2011 to automatically delete EMails":

One other thing is if that does not work, check with your ISP. I don't know who BT is, but here in Seattle, I use Comcast.
