I updated to the latest version of El Capitan (OX 10.11.4) and now Bootcamp will not come up. Just freezes in the field with options for Mac or Windows. When I try through System Preferences Startup Disc same thing happens. How do I get it back?

Hello and welcome.

SIP (System Integrity Protection) in El Capitan can cause some issues when trying to change the Startup Disk. Try holding the Option key down when starting up to use the Startup Manager, then select the Boot Camp/Windows partition.

Temporarily change your startup disk with Startup Manager

Let us know if that allows you to startup in Boot Camp.

I'm a little late, but if we're talking abut the same thing, you clicked the Startup Disk in system Preferences, but then you were locked out of selecting Bootcamp or something else. I think you'll notice a locked padlock in the lower-left corner. If you click it to unlock it, you should be able to make your selection then.

Yeah, that is a new "feature" with El Capitan. I ran into that when I attempted to select the eDrive partition to boot from that gets created by the excellent disk maintenance program TechTool Pro. But, as Bud says above, one just needs to click on the "lock/padlock" icon, enter your admin password, and then one has access to ALL bootable devices.

When I am done using TechTool Pro via that eDrive, and want to re-boot my Mac from my internal drive, I have to go through the same "padlock" business.
