Okay, so I have a vintage Mac Powerbook 180 C from 1993. I can turn it on, it makes the normal mac sound and then this creepy nursery rhyme like music, then the screen stays light grey/white and then nothing... I have no manuals, and no hope....please help me... I really want to get this old monster to work again, any help would be greatly appreciated.:D

Did you try to start it using a system installer disk? I'd try that first if nothing else is working...

I dont have any disks to try.... but yes, it was the "death chime". Now, with all that being said, is this a lost cause? Or how hard would it be to get some install disks, i researched for what seemed like hours last night, but I had no luck at all...

Hi there and welcome !

I'll have a check but I think you are going to need some System 7 disks...

Where are you based ? I have System 7 disks, but there may be some one closer to you, or a local Mac User Group that may have them.

I thought you could download System 7 from Apples website now. But I can't find the link, this one has all the updates, but not the 'actual software'.

I'll have a look later to see if I can track down the link.

Have you tried starting it with the Battery out and just the AC adapter plugged in...

I have one of these somewhere I think...I'll have to have a look.

I knew I had seen it somewhere, you can download the System Software Disks from here.
