I am trying to clean up my addresses and found numerous duplicate addresses in the Mac OS X Address Book in Thunderbird. Looks like this address book is a "read only" in Thunderbird. Is there someway to clean up the duplicate addresses? Sometimes there are 4 separate entries for one individual address - tried to use the add-on for duplicate entries but that does not work in the Mac OS X Address Book. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I don't use Thunderbird, so I cannot offer specific help with your issue. A new version of Thunderbird, V45.6, came out the other day, and apparently it contains a number of crucial security fixes:

You can get the new version from here:

When I did a google search of "How to clean up duplicate addresses in the Mac OS X Address Book in Thunderbird", here are the results (ie, all the "hits"):

https://www.google.com/search?q=How...i57j69i65l3.4700j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

A couple of those mention add ons for Thunderbird, including one entitled "Duplicate Contact Manager", but you already mentioned trying one without success.
