downloaded update execution problem

Hello, when I download an update in safari or firefox and get the dmg file I get the icon on the desktop, however when I double click it and then click again on the icon opening in a window it opens a terminal window (e.g. below) but does nothing else, below is an example when trying to update silverlight.




silverlight.pkg - bash - 78x28

IMAC is 2010 I7 running Lion OS.
