Need some additional pertinent information that you did not supply:
1. What exact Mac model do you have?
2. What exact Mac OS are you using?
You should be able to format a device as either MS-DOS (FAT; = FAT32), or ExFAT. Here is how to do it:
1. Launch Disk Utility, and select the USB drive at the "top" level.
2. Click on Erase.
3. On the pop-up screen that appears, click on the arrow on the right side of where it says "Format", and select "MS-DOS (FAT)".
4. Also on that pop-up screen, click on the arrow to the right where it says "Scheme", and select "Mater Boot Record".
5. Click on "Erase" on that pop-up window.
Disk Utility will then Erase and Format the drive as MS-DOS (FAT), ie, FAT32.
I have needed to go through this exact procedure in order to format a 32 gig Flash Drive for use on a slightly older LG TV, on which I have copied movies to. It works flawlessly.
