hello.
im running OS X version 10.8.5. i need to be able to remove the ability to delete browsing history and also remove private browsing from my kids account. I have three boys who like to browse sites they shouldn't be on. (not only porn.. a slew of sites) my middle son likes to download EVERYTHING... so he has managed to overload and crash two computers. I wasnt letting them use my MAC .. but now we dont have a choice, homework needs to be done.

i have an account set up for myself and my husband, but the boys account has parental controls but they still have the ability to delete the history.

Im not asking for your personal opinions or advice on what i should or shouldnt allow my children to do.. i just want to remove the ability to delete history on FIREFOX, SAFARI and disable private browsing on both. Thank you in advance.

In Parental Controls you get to both limit or allow access to sites, and in the Logs button you can monitor there history.

This should work with all browsers, but it's better with Safari.

Firefox, I doubt there is a way turn disallow private browsing, but you may find something on their support forums.

Other than that there is no way that I know of to do it at a browser level, and at the end of the day whats stopping them downloading a different browser and using that?

We work with schools and know what children can be like, white or black listing, they will find away around it.

My personal opinion is that if you can't trust a child with a gun, don't give them a gun, internet the same, either they use it trusted or they have to be supervised.

PS, on a free voluntary help forum you get opinions like it or not!

I'm willing to disable from the computer level also. Just seem to find roadblocks. I went through Safari, the interface builder will not work..etc.. Unfortunately, I'd love to monitor my children.. But I work and homework still has to be accomplished. Removing the ability.. Will make it easier.
I've blocked websites..I've limited the times they can log in but the settings seem to not work.. They can also... Click on the name (home computer) and it will switch from their profile to mine.. No password needed.. No clue how to prevent this either.

Hi,

Possibly think about OpenDNS which is free.
http://www.opendns.com

This will defiantly allow you to filter out certain types of websites, and even block or allow access to specific sites. I believe it can also be managed remotely IE from work.

home computer
does that account require a password, in System Preferences Accounts?
Or did someone click the remember password button and now it gets the password from it's keychain?
