Damage to glass on Macbook Pro.

Something appeared on the glass a while back--it looks like sleet. Maybe a cleaning person sprayed it? It is very distracting. The few people I have checked with say the only option is to replace the whole top to the tune of 500.00. Any suggestions would be helpful.
