Hi,

the reason I bought into the Macintosh system in 1985, was I was fed up with the 'cryptic' command as messages that I had to look up all the time. (always held in awe and regard the computer club members that could recite such off the top of their head...)

I got this rather strange message on running Disk First Aid on a USB Stick that I use to plug downloaded utube file into my TV to watch at nigh. (the nes is too depressing)

it says my system files in to clean, Ok.
and that the file system is marked as "Dirty".

however, apart from those rather unexplained messages. I am left puzzling just what they mean.

is there any info look up where I can find out just what they mean... ?

regards, Sandy

Volumes are marked dirty when they are mounted read/write. They are then marked clean if they are safely unmounted. So, if the cable is disconnected or the machine or drive or a hub loses power, it stays marked as dirty and it will be checked automatically on the next mount.
