Crashing Problems

I'm sure the answer is pretty simple or has already been asked alot but I figured I'd open myself up with my basic help question at this time. I have an iMac20 and am still running OS Tiger. I know I'm basically very behind on upgrades but I haven't spent much time on the internet on my Apple computer. I mainly use it for composing music, iTunes or making movies but since I recently changed jobs, I no longer have use of a company laptop or office computers where I was doing most of my net surfing so now all of my internet work is being done on my iMac. Most recently, my Safari OS has been crashing alot. Not sure if it's because I'm using an old OS or if it's something else. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this? I'm not the most computer savvy person.

I've already run all of the software available for my version of Safari. They stopped sending me updates awhile ago because I bought my Mac in '06 and it's older. Can I still upgrade my computer to the current level of OS or is my current machine too obsolete? And how would I go about doing it?

Does your version have Empty Cache under the Safari Menu, try that next.

You can also delete the Safari Preferences in Library > Preferences

I have this same problem- I've got an old MacBook Pro, and Safari is up to date. It used to crash only very occasionally, but now it's crashing all the time. I've googled it, and most people seem to be saying to make sure you don't have unsupported third-party plugins (found in your library.)

Also, to check for updates, click on the apple symbol in the upper left corner of the toolbar, and select 'software update.' That will show anything you need to update or install, I believe.

I empty my cache at least once or twice a month when I clear my history. It helps a little but I've still been getting the crashes. I started using Firefox lately though, because my system is older, I can't upload the latest versions. I'll try the Preferences next. Thanks.

Yes, I checked for updates a long time ago but I don't get anymore. I'm sure I've exhausted them all for this system. Guess it's time to upgrade.
