Converting a word perfect document

I am new to Apple and have a Mac Mini (10.7.1 version). I have a Microsoft word perfect document I would like to read and work on but I cannot open it because it is a wp document. I have checked FAQ and find no solutions and am having trouble getting any connection to Apple help. Can someone tell me how to convert the document if it can be done?
