Contacts list

For the past few weeks I have been trying to add new name to my Contacts listings.
However each time (I have tried all the usual methods from sent emails etc) when I click on "Done" after adding all the needed details the name in the left hand column shows up in correctly but after I have quit and then gone back into Contacts all the new details have disappeared.
How do I correct this and save these added details?
Feeling very frustrated now!
