Charging my 2017 Macbook 12"

My newly acquired 12" Mac book takes hours to charge and when operating and connected to charging cable the battery discharges over a few hours.
This is particularly frustrating as I gave my 2012 13" Mac book Pro to my daughter as the battery was in need of replacing.....
Help please.
