Changed AppleID password-now it is asking to reset using MacBook pw, but...

Hi,
Hoping SOMEONE can help.
I had to reset my AppleID pw. It then prompted me to update (after changing) using my MacBook Pro laptop password.
It will not work. I KNOW my startup password...but NOPE.

I am kind of cranky now.

Any help is appreciated.

-Which exact model Mac?
-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Did you have Allow user to reset password using Apple ID enable in  > System Preferences... > Users & Groups?
-How/where did you change the Apple ID password?
