Hey all, I'm having this odd problem. My CD won't eject and when I try to get it to eject, the drive tries to, but makes a whirring/clicking sound as if the CD is stuck in the drive. I've tried to eject it via terminal and firmware, but nothing works.

Can anyone help me? I would prefer not to take my computer to a specialist for a problem this simple.

Have you tried restarting your Mac with the clicker on your mouse down?

yes I've tried to eject it via disc utility and pressing the mouse button during booting.

And yes this is a standard sized disc. I don't want to take my computer to a specialist as it would just be worthless because all they would do it take the computer apart, take out the disc and put it back together. in my mind, spending 100 dollars to remove a CD is a waste of money.

Have you tried pressing the F12 key? Was it a home made disc with an added paper label attached, or a professional disc?

Another thing you could try is to get something very thin like a business card and some sticky two sided tape. Apply the tape to the business card and very carefully slide it into the slot and see if you can stick it to a disc and drag the disc out. Be very careful, you don't want to go in very far and you don't want to lose the tape in the slot.

Try Cmd-Opt-O-F to get into Open Firmware. Type "eject cd" once you get in and hopefully this will work. Then type reboot or restart, I can't recall off hand, and press enter.

Maybe you could get a grip on the disc with a very small pair of tweezers?

Lastly for now, you could try picking up the iBook and turning it so the slot points down to the ground and continually press the F12/eject key for as long as possible in the hope that the disc will give up and fall out ....

blah. i just got it ejected. what happened was that the edge of the disc was messed up, so it got stuck in the drive. I ended up having to pry open the drive with a screwdriver and pull the disc out with some pinchers.

great. now my CD drive won't accept new discs....but it still works, cause it whirrs when I press the eject button, as if it thinks there's still a disc inside it. what can I do?
