Can't use apps when Mac Help open

LOVE my MBP. Mac user since '92.

HATE it that when I have Help open I can't use the subject app.

For instance, in PowerPoint I look up a Help topic. Step by step instructions are given.

But--dag nab it--I can't Command-Tab or anything else to BOTH keep the instructions open AND walk my way thru the steps.

Any solution known?
