As the title states I cnnot print on my Officejet 6500A Plus from a Word document. The printer just "spits" out a blank page. I attempted to contact HP at their .com/support web site. The individual just (with my permission) accessed my Mac and then proceded to tell me that my Mac had been infiltrated by "Trojan" and "Rootkit" - what ever they are. He showed me a Wikipedia page with those two words included in the lengthy text. Bottom line . . . he wanted to sell me some software to prevent this from happening. I was always under the impression that the MAC was secure. Was I misleading myself? Does anyone have a direction for me? I recently updated to Yosemite 10.10.3. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Assuming those viruses are on your machine, you can get rid of them as follows:

1. Rootkit - Download, install, and run the excellent freeware program ClamXav. You can get it from here:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15850/clamxav

It might also catch the Trojan Horse virus, and thus the next step might not be necessary.

2. Trojan Horse - Follow the directions posted by Linc Davis on this link:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6651884

The information in this link might work also:

(Note that last one is from 2007).
