Can open only one visible window

A few days after updating to El Cap, all of the sudden, when I click on a window, say a browser, it comes to the foreground, but all the other windows hide.

They are still there and I can click on any of them to open them, but when I do, the open window hides and the one I clicked on takes over the foreground.

When i go into Mission Control and look at all my open programs, I only see the one that is in the foreground. All the rest are not showing up at all.

I thought it might be in Single App mode so I opened Terminal and issued this command to take it out if it was. No avail.

defaults write com.apple.dock single-app -bool false; killall Dock

This does not seem to be Single App behavior anyway. I think there is something wrong in that Mission Control only sees the program in the foreground, and none of the programs open but hiding in the background.

Any ideas anyone?

Hello and welcome.

-Which model Mac?
-Maybe your mouse/trackpad buttons have been reprogrammed to access Mission Control instead of a normal click?
-You could have a sticking key - F11/F12 - that is causing that behavior?
-Have you tried turning off all of the Mission Control functions to see if the issue persists?
