Can I delete some Garageband library loops without upsetting Garageband?

I would like to be able remove a few of the Garageband loops from the loop library in order to free up some space on my harddrive. The problem is, will removing a few select loops cause Garageband to stop performing properly or perhaps keep prompting for the whereabouts of the missing loops, or maybe corrupt the loop index etc?

I don't really want to move everything onto an external drive as some have done, as I just want to keep everything together on my laptop.

Is it possible?
