i was using mac osx snow leopard and noticed that my browser (chrome) would suddenly and sparatically stop gaining access to the internet and crash (aw snap message). I then try to click on chrome again to reopen it but it wont open again. I try Safari, which opens, but wont connect me to any pages. Not until i restart the computer will it regain access. Recently i replaced my harddrive and installed Yosemite but the same problem persists. I have verizon fios and never had any problems with connections before. This was a sudden occurance. I did transfer my backup files from my old HD and transferred them to the new one. Could it be malware? Im currently using macbook pro 13" with yosemite. Thanks for any help or advice.

First of all, how did you transfer the backup files from the old HD to the new one?

Secondly, did you upgrade from Snow Leopard to Yosemite, or do an actual installation of Yosemite on the new HD? Also, do you have the latest version of Yosemite, 10.10.2? That also contains the latest version of Safari.

Third, do you have the latest version of Chrome? You can get it from here:

Now, to check out any potential malware/adware issues, you could try the two free products ClamXav and AdWareMedic. You can get them from here:
