Hello and welcome.
That symbol means it cannot find OS X/macOS to startup from, or it is occupied somehow and not useable. Any other damage to the MBP?
-Which exact model MBP?
-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-If your Mac doesn't start up all the way
-If your Mac starts up to a circle with a line through it
