Booting into external drive

My computer OS is high Sierra. I want to boot into my external drive which is Sierra just for information.

Can I run into problems?

Depending on the drive, SSD or mechanical and the connection, USB2, USB3 or thunderbolt, you may notice that it runs a little slower than normal. Otherwise it should all be OK.
