Boot from USB on imac late 2006

i want to boot from my USB drive on my iMac late 2006 to install a different OS. I've tried holding the F8 key, Option key,... none seem to boot it into boot menu.

The mac is running Windows 7, I assume via bootcamp but not sure, i bought it like this.

How can I enter the boot menu?

Important to mention, I'm using an external monitor via mini DV. original LCD is broken and not attached.
