Big Sur 11.3.1 problems

After Big Sur 11.3.1 installed itself Preview keeps crashing so I can't open .pdf files or screenshots, and using 'get info' to open them with any other application doesn't work. Is this a general problem, or is it a glitch in the download of this particular installation on my device? As the installation was automatic, I'm not sure how to do it again.

A restart seems to have fixed it.
