Best app for looping segments and other professional transport options?

I downloaded QT pro manual to see about upgrading but I need something much closer to how a digital audio workstation works. Simple keyboard commands for looping and marker placement for quick return to a specified place in the Mv4 file. Slowing of playback w/o pitch change would be nice. I use instructional music videos all the time and eveything I've seen so far nothing in the on board apps will do what I need. Band in A Box comes closest but it it extreamly flakey with mv4 files.

Is there something that isn't a movie editing suite, and has easy keyboard commands.

A few questions:

-What are you trying to make - backing tracks, songs from loops, etc.?
-Have you tried GarageBand?
-Are you editing the audio tracks of videos that you have recorded - thus the mv4 extension?

A little more information on what you are trying to accomplish may help up narrow it down for you.
