In About this Mac it states that I have 128.51GB available of 499.9GB. So I assume I have 371GB of data. When I try to make a backup with a Seagate external 500GB Drive. it says there is not enough space.. When the back up is 33% done, it shows 227.64 copied, and at 66% done it shows 424GB copied. How come?

Hello,
  • Is this the first backup to the Seagate?
  • Did you format the Seagate drive for Mac?
  • Is the Mac drive only 500 GB in size?

The Seagate is a few years old. Worked Ok with other Mac OS's.
My original drive is 1 TB HDD with 320Gb used. I made a backup of this to the Seagate.
Then I connected an external 500GB SSD, and used the backup for this drive. The SSD is now my Startup Disk and is showing 378GB. used.
The problem starts when I try to backup the SSD. With 33% done it says 228GB copied, at 66% done it says 396GB copied.. then runs out of space.
