Apps Starting At Log In

Just got new iMac with Mavericks

Each time I start up (after log in) several apps start up.
I have already set the check marks for each of the apps in System Preferences, Log In Items as well as checked the appropriate box for the apps in the Dock

Firstly make sure you have shut /closed respective apps via quit not just red ball. secondly have you unchecked the windows login box as my screen shot?
Mine is checked as I like to start where I finish
