Applications not responding - help!

When I over the mouse over anything from a Folder to an application like Safari and click, the computer is not responding.
I have tried pressing power button on and off and back but that changes nothing. I have also pulled the power cord out the back but problem remains.
I have changed the batteries in the keyboard so they are new.

Is this a virus? Somebody help please!

Hi,

Need more info what Mac are you talking about and which OS X are you running.
Have you a windows partition installed?
Also have you plugged a standard USB keyboard and mouse in to double check that your peripherals are not the issue.
Defiantly do not see this as a virus, Macs don't get them.
