Hi, I generally always leave System updates for a long time, after some very bad occurrences long ago, when a recommended system update ended in a Kernel Panic that to days to restore.

and after I did, I found several of my Photoshop paid filters no longer worked, and a few were very erratic..

as I live in photoshop all day, too arthritic to go out... I am so wary of this, as at present I have a STABLE photoshop, and filters that all work great, and would prefer it to stay that way forever.. (When you are on a good thing stick with it.)

so if anyone out there has had the slightest problem, please let me know.

I don't know how to turn off these dam annoying update reminders, and once hit the wrong thing and it went ahead, and I regretted that like forever.

Regards, Sandy

I had been on the 4th version Ventura beta since August, probably the longest beta cycle of macOS ever, and aside from learning the very novel interface, there were minimal conflicts. If you are reliant on Photoshop, you should search for reports of incompatibilities between Ventura and your particular version of Adobe Photoshop. I don’t recall the version of PS at the time I upgraded to macOS 13 but I had no problems. Presently I’m running Photoshop 2023 with no problem at all. The iWork suite has been updated, of course, and Office 365 never exhibited any problem. If you are running Photoshop 2022, you don’t have anything to worry about except maybe for 3rd-party plug-ins. (Photoshop 2023 was released shortly after the release of macOS 13.0.)

Stage Manager requires some time to get used to, but you don’t have to turn it on by any means. System preferences, now known as System Settings, is a total revamp and can be quite alien at first. Thankfully, you can easily find what you’re looking for in the search field, conveniently located on top of the sidebar. If you like the iOS/iPad settings layout, you will probably enjoy macOS 13. No need to be triskaidekaphobic.

Overall, this was probably the least problematic beta cycle I experienced ever. There were a number of utilities and extensions not compatible but practically all that I use and rely on have now been updated. (Still waiting for Onyx.)

There is just one bug, in my situation, that has persisted from day one up to the final 13.0 and version 13.1 Beta (22C5033e) and that is Announce the time under Clock Options. It will work for one day, but will be disabled the next day, or after a restart. Not a deal breaker at all, compared to the utter nightmare I had to go through for Monterey to work with dual monitors.

I know a number of malware products (e.g. Malwarebytes and BlockBlock) don’t work yet, but it was never a personal concern for me. They will quickly come to line before long. I have come to appreciate all of the built-in security features of macOS, and don’t really run any 3rd-party anti-malware software.

I don’t see any difference between my Studio (M1 Max) and my 2018 Mac mini (intel), both running virtually the same set of apps and extensions. If you discover that your version of Adobe Photoshop does not work, and if you are not ready to upgrade, the recourse for many, Affinity Photo at version 1.10.5, works fine in Ventura.

Hi Tony, greatly appreciate such a detailed reply.. Having my main 27" iMac fuze in March this year, unable to ort over the data, as Time mache, for me anyway, was set up under high sierra and wont port data (Address book & Calander ) into my new Monteray iMac. dam apple.

and as I don't do anything else other than photoshop, I am pondering whether it is worth the potential probems. I am on Photoshop 2022.. and that was not much of a curve from CS6, but the dam brushes in it are a headache...

Will think hard over the weekend...

one thing, I Work my files on a Monterey iMac with Photoshop 2022, then USB stick them to a 2009 iBook running Lion under Photoshop CS4, to print, having struggled and saved my printers ahead of the flood waters.. (Lost physical tonage). NOW that is compatibility in anyone word...

regards, Sandy

Should be zero problem with PS 2022. My advice re Time Machine, set two (or more) drives in tandem. That way, you can reformat one of them with impunity, to create a TM backup compatible with the current macOS. In fact, I did just that—reformat my Time Machine drives, one by one—last night, after they exhibited problems with macOS 13.1.

I also strongly advise formatting your Time Machine as APFS (not encrypted) and then opting for encrypted backups when adding them to Time Machine. For more redundancy, I also create copies with Carbon Copy Cloner. They make migration a great deal faster, but don’t forget to turn off snapshots. This is what makes restoring take such a long time.

The only problem I've found that I can't fix is Camtasia, and Snagit audio plugins won't install, so you can't record audio that way. The combo of the M1 and Ventura is brilliant, but I think the BT chip or Antenna in my M1 is a bit weak, less so than an older MacPro :)

Thanks for the detailed analysis. I'm waiting a while longer to go to Ventura, and your info was very helpful.

Upgraded my wife’s M1 iMac to Ventura the other day, no issues. She doesn’t use sound at all though so can’t speak to that, sorry.

I am VERY reluctant to update since my last update was a complete disaster. This is what happened with the update to 12.6:
* The computer stopped completely
* An Apple specialist claimed that it had insufficient RAM
* I updated the RAM and it still didn't work
* An Apple specialist claimed that it was due to third party apps like Photoshop and Lightroom
* I uninstalled all of the Adobe cloud stuff
* It still didn't work
* An Apple specialist advised that the only way forward was to restore the machine to the state it was when purchased
* I made sure that my time machine backups were up to date, and restored the machine to how it was when delivered
* It worked even better than it was when I first got it. Lightening fast and able to run everything at once
* I attempted the Time Machine restore - It didn't work
* It turned out that Time machine had chosen not to backup the Library folder which contains documents and emails.
* An Apple specialist advised me that my hard disk was the culprit and I should enlist the help of PAYAM
* PAYAM advised me that they would not help as the Apple Time Machine was not fit for purpose
* An Apple specialist offered me a mouse in compensation.
* A consumer affairs hearing is pending.

I have had one curious glitch since upgrading my M1 MacBook Pro to Ventura. I use a 1TB USB drive for Carbon Copy Cloner backups. It no longer shows up in the Finder although the backups run as normal. It does show up in Disk Utility and when I select "Show in Finder" in Disk Utility it opens a new Finder window with the drive showing. But when I close that window it doesn't show in any other Finder window. It's an irritation rather than disaster but I would like to sort it out.
