Alphabetical ordering in Pages mailmerge

I have a problem merging an Address book list with a Pages document; although the Address book list is ordered alphabetically (by first name), when I merge this with a Pages document, the names appear apparently at random (the only two fields are first name and second name, and the names that appear are not ordered alphabetically by either of these criteria). I fear I'm missing something really basic, but I've tried anything I can think of. Any ideas?

I doubt you are missing anything, the Mail-merge in Pages is very basic.

You could try dumping the required information out to a file from Addressbook and seeing if that is sorted then use that as our Mail-merge Source.
