All applications freeze briefly for around 1 second- repeatedly

Hello,

I've got a macbook just out of the three year warranty that seems to be continuously freezing every few seconds. It freezes only about a second at a time, but does so once every 2~5 seconds. Noticed first when trying to load videos on chrome, thought it might be silverlight briefly, uninstalled that, but it also occurs on i-tunes and other apps. Can hear speakers clicking/popping when it freezes (sort of light taps). Video streaming is impossible- freezing appears to accelerate when I attempt to load a video on youtube or netflix. If I'm playing anything through external speakers, sometimes the application will freeze and sound will stutter on computer speakers and not external speakers, even if they are still plugged in.

I've got a backup from a week and a half ago, but I'm starting to get the feeling it's a hardware problem. Any ideas?

More info:

MacBook 5,2
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Running 10.6.8 with all system and application updates applied
Battery is condition Replace Soon, but I'm broke

Activity monitor shows chrome's flash plug-in pumping up to 35% CPU usage when I try to run a video- but it also freezes even if no browser has been opened.

Any help is very appreciated.

I've got a lot in console. What's helpful to point out?

Just a few highlights:

Google Chrome: Inconsistent set of values to create NSBitmapImageRep

Google Chrome: It does not make sense to draw an image when [NSGraphicsContext currentContext] is nil. This is a programming error. Break on _NsWarnForDrawingImageWithNoCurrentContext to debug. This will be logged only once. This may break in the future.

Itunes: AppleGVA:: Error creating the accelerator 1

...d.peruser.501: (com.apple.ReportCrash) Falling back to default Mach exception handler. Could not find: com.apple.ReportCrash.Self

Google Chrome: Critical error found -8

SystemUIServer: It does not make sense to draw an image when [NSGraphicsContext currentContext] is nil. This is a programming error. Break on _NsWarnForDrawingImageWithNoCurrentContext to debug. This will be logged only once. This may break in the future.

Thanks for your help!

see the timestamps, you want to look at the listings just before and after that happens.

I suspect its either the Google or Adobe updates...

There were a few repeated sections of jumbles of the top part, all within the same second, and then a minute or two of the last line that was repeated. This is some sort of kernel panic?

Is the suggested course of action here to uninstall chrome and adobe and reinstall?

Thanks again for your help.
