Airport ID address issue

I have been using wireless on a OX 10.6.8 without any problem. Today, without any change to any settings or preferences, I can't connect through airport. The message "AirPort does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet" comes up. I can connect using ethernet or using a USB stick. DOes anyone have any idea why I would suddenly not have an IP address for Airport. Thanks for any help.

Under the WiFi (AirPort) Menu, the one with the radiating lines, also called the window-wipers, check your Network has a tick, beside the name.
