admin passwords osx

Hi

Not sure if this is the right forum. If not please point me in the right direction....

I have forgotten my admin password. I have checked forum and Help says use my Mac OX install media and restart my computer.. so my question is, if I do this will I lose my files/photos/films etc?

Can anyone answer this?

No.

It will restart from the DVD which has a reset the password option, Do not Install anything or Run Disk Utility, as those can overwrite your user files.
