My iphone 4s updated yesterday and when I connect it to my macbook I get a dialog box "must have itunes 10.6.3 or later.. So I update itunes and then when I try to install it, the dialog box says "must have mac osx 10.6.8 or later. THEN I click the software update and it says I'm up to date.

Going into "about this mac" I see that:

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)

Can anyone tell me how I can fix this?

Thanks very much.

Something annoying like this happened to me recently, I was trying to find a Tiger compatible version of Mactracker and when I finally did, I downloaded and installed it but straight away it informed me of an available update ... I thought okay may as well, BUT when it tried to relaunch after updating it informed my that my OS version was incompatible !!!

Lucky I'd kept the original .dmg installer so it was easy to revert back .... but I too went aarrgh!!

I can't say that 100%, yes this is what happened to you but it does sound very identical ...

What version iOS did your iPhone 4 update itself too ... we'll see if there's a way to revert back to the previous version.

Honestly I really don't know. I've had this thing for a few years and it's never given me trouble.

What I've gathered is that I need to upgrade to 10.6, but when i try to do that in the Mac App store, it only gives the option of upgrading to mountain lion. And I you have to have snow leopard to upgrade to mountain lion. And I can't find snow leopard to buy, it just sends me to the mountain lion page.

I have no problem paying the money, i figure my macbook pro has saved me from buying at least two PC laptops by now. I just wish they'd make it a little more clear and not assume everyone knows which animal is higher on the food chain in order to figure out how to upgrade the damn thing.

Unfortunately that's all I found too. The really bummer is that I live on the Island of Guam and it will take God-knows-how-long to get it over here.

I just can't believe it's not possible to download it from Apple, or anywhere it seems.

I was thinking of using this as an opportunity to upgrade to a new macbook, but after I buy all the software I need for my business I'm in $3k.

So I'll be dead in the water here for a couple of weeks. WTF.

I haven't been this disappointed since I tried the Galaxy S3. Which is why I have the 4s now anyway, because I hate the S3.

Appreciate the help. Guess I'll be sitting by the mailbox.

I can't believe the asking prices on eBay, considering the original price was around $30 ...

Unfortunately Apple moves onto the next OS version and you can only re-download a bought/downloaded version from the App Store if you originally purchased it that way (AFAIK) ....

Apparently according to this thread SL wasn't a download ... oh well, I'm being left behind ...

why has snow leopard been removed for download
