Hello!

I recently acquired 2 - 27 mid 2011 iMacs. Because I am new to mac I researched how to partiton to install windows for the type of work I do and found that I can connect the two iMacs together. If I were to connect them together, would I be able to utilized all of the resources from both iMacs into one? I.e., ram, video memory, gpu, cpu? If yes, can I achieve this when running Windows on both systems?

Thanks

First of all, you cannot just install Windows on a Mac as the only OS. You must still have the Mac OS on one partition. That is, you will need to partition the internal drive to at least 2 partitions, one for the (current) Mac OS, and the other one for Windows. Next, there are 2 ways of "placing" Windows (and Windows apps) onto that partition:

1) Use Bootcamp. That comes as part of the Mac OS.

2) Purchase either Parallels (https://www.parallels.com/landingpa...MIuKqh-cTL2AIVGNVkCh3kWAtcEAAYASAAEgJxffD_BwE), or VMware Fusion (https://store.vmware.com/store?Action=pd&Env=BASE&Locale=en_US&SiteID=vmware&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItaSxnMXL2AIVgf5kCh0eBQAUEAAYASAAEgLhvPD_BwE&k_clickid=6ca4bd73-980f-49f3-93ba-3c6fdf069693&kw=+vmware++mac&mt=b&productID=5124966400&src=ps_570c41fd1ed2e&utm_campaign=GS_eBiz_Lead_AMS_US_EN_BR_BMM_Fusion&utm_medium=ppc&utm_source=google).

Of course, no matter which way you go, you'll need a version of the Windows OS that you want to install.

Now, before you partition the internal drive on either of the iMacs, it is imperative that you first make a backup to an external device of that current partition (might be the only one). What Mac OS are you running?

For the backup, you have 2 choices:

1. Use Time Machine (free, and comes with the Mac OS).

2. A backup/cloning program like SuperDuper!:

or Carbon Copy Cloner: https://bombich.com/

As for connecting one of the IMacs (with the Windows partition) to the other and "using" that Windows partition on the other , "non-Windows" Mac, not sure 1) why you would need to do that, and 2) even how to do it.
