I have a 15" Macbook Pro mid-late 2008 model running Snow Leopard. The front bezel on the display started cracking after years of opening and closing, and my iSight broke a long time ago, so I decided it would be better and easier to just replace the whole display. I bought a replacement display, disassembled the keyboard panel, and put the new one in and plugged it in. It was a pretty easy task, I was very careful, and followed a tutorial on powerbookmedic.com exactly. However, when I booted up, the backlight wouldn't come on. I checked all my connections, and even plugged my old screen back in. The backlight doesn't work with the old one either. If I plug my mbp into an external monitor though, everything shows up fine. Can someone help me figure out what's going on? I can't afford Mac care, and my laptop is crucial for my job.
