10.9 not showing text

I've loaded Maverick on my MacBook Pro. All my documents and Excel spreadsheets don't show text when I open them on my computer or when I try to print. I can send them to others and the text is on them. When I go to create a new document on Microsoft Word the text doesn't show on the screen. What's the fix?
